Which two of these kitchen appliances should I get?

Filed under: Electric Food Processors — admin at 8:42 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2012

I’m kind of torn between the ones I want to get:

- A griddle
- An electric handmixer
- Food processor

Someone help me decide 2 out of the 3 I should get. I’ve never had any of these items in my life. Give your opinions about each item if you can and which two you think would get used the most. Thanks!

I agree that the hand mixer is unnecessary. I received one ten years ago as a wedding or bridal shower gift and we rarely use it. (It’s like the waffle maker we got as a wedding gift– Once it died, we did not replace it. Instead, we stick with pancakes on the stove top griddle.)

A food processor/blender is multi-fuctional. We got a blender with a processor attachment because it seemed more practical (and takes up less counter space).

We use our stove top griddle for many things– pancakes (which we make in large batches and freeze to put in the toaster), sandwiches….

I’m not only cheap, but every kitchen I have lived in in my adult life has not had much space. Therefore, appliances that serve more than one use (except for my coffee maker) are essential.

l would go for the griddle and the food processor. The processor can also double as a mixer and also has the facility for chopping…for things like coleslaw.

i agree with K M T, the handmixer will only ever be a handmixer, where as the processor can multi task and you can cook everything on a griddle

A griddle and a food processor. You can use the food processor in place of the hand mixer so it can serve as two purposes.

The food processor is a must (and I’d add a blender to that since they do slightly different things and I use mine a lot).

The other two would depend on what kinds of things *you like to cook*.
If you do a lot of baking (cookies, cakes, etc), you’ll want a hand mixer (or an expensive stand mixer).
If you do a lot of "grilling" inside, or make a lot of pancakes, you’d use a
flat surface griddle a lot, but otherwise may always just saute those things in a hot skillet which will give the same browned surface, etc. (You don’t say what you mean by a "griddle" though… there are flat electric griddles, hinged electric griddles like the George Foreman or the Griddler, "grill pans" to use on stovetops and some to use on outdoor grills, wafflemaker griddles, etc).
